• What big concerns did you have about your draft as you completed the first draft?

My biggest concern I have with my draft was getting my point across and have a clear thesis statement and giving the right evidence to support my problem. Also I have to stop repeating myself and get right to the point.

What did your peers like most about your paper?

What I believe my peers liked about my paper was grammatical correct and how you could read it so fluently and got a somewhat good understanding on how my point comes across.

Where are you working best with Dweck? What do your peers think you can do to improve on that section? 

I believe that I need to be more focused and more tied into on the quotes of Dweck in order to get my point across even better and probably better evidence of the significance of it.

Where are you working best with Lukianoff/Haidt? 

I believe I am working with the solutions to the problems. And it really ties into the 2nd part of my paper.

According to your peers, what are your two biggest challenges in your work with the texts? How do you think you can address those challenges in your revision?

My 2 biggest challenges would probably be to stop repeating myself and get right to the point. And I believe that I need to be more focused and more tied into on the quotes of Dweck in order to get my point across even better and probably better evidence of the significance of it. But besides that I believe I’ll be alright.

• Using the guidance from your peers, put your overall perspective (viewpoint) into a sentence or two. How will you help your reader “get” your perspective?

My perspective is to get everyone to eventually get a growth mindset.

After reading this quote Ive came to conclusion that overtime the amount of people that are being affected by the “trigger warnings/ micro aggressions are only becoming greater and more people are given that mindset to react in this way. I agree with this quote because I have seen it first hand and have done it myself. I believe that we all truly have a problem and the only way to get it “fixed” is to get “growth”with each this that we do.

I do not agree with them because it can give people false hope and lead them in the wrong direction. I thought for instance if a kid wasn’t good at a sport, yes its good to encourage them to keep playing but one day the reality will settle in and they will be quickly meet by it and the parents keep encouraging but everyone besides them will think otherwise.
I couldn’t find a quote specifically but if we went off of Haidt’s mindset we all would be in the triggered/ micro aggression stage and wed all live that that and we would all be screwed. Not only from a teachers prospective but as a community. So we need to push the society as a whole to become less afraid and more knowledgeable around the stuff them or just to reality in general

I looked into the UNE math club and it was a pretty easy choice for me because I’d like to say that I am pretty good at it. What also sparked my curiosity was that if it was any different compared to a high school math environment but I was told that it all factors in on which math you have taken in the past but I was confident in my abilities in the subject. I learned that you go to different places around and compete. That was one thing that I was looking into because I didn’t know if you were going places or just staying there and doing problems at random times. I also liked how open they were to allow new people to join. I just still can’t believe that we get to go to so many conferences and go on trips to places that I would not have even of thought to go to when I am with my family.

1. Dweck offers two key terms, Growth Mindset and Fixed Mindset. Explain these two concepts. Use a Dweck quote for each as part of your explanation. Be sure to offer your explanation in a way that a friend might understand it.

A growth mindset from my standpoint is basically allowing the students in this case to believe in themselves that they can become smarter. From the video you can see this from the part where she talks about giving challenging problems to ten year olds causing them to become eager for the challenge saying things like “I love the challenge” and other positive minded comments. A fixed mindset on the other hand deals with the exact opposite dealing with making the students feel discouraged and questioning if they are indeed smart or not. 

2 Dweck names at least two ways to stimulate a Growth Mindset or to building a “bridge to yet” (3:53). What are they? Use a quote for each and offer a response. Do these seem reasonable? Does something about them bother you? Why?

 We can praise more wisely. This could very depended on helping and praising the progress and/or the process in which the kid is passionate about. Their efforts, strategies, and improvement are all ways that parents should praise rather than ignore. This process praise creates kids who are more adaptable and buoyant. So I believe that this is the right way to praise them.

3 Intelligence. Dweck’s ideas may suggest a notion of intelligence or smarts that is different from what many might think about when considering intelligence. How do you see her model of intelligence? Explain with evidence from the text.

I see Dweck’s ideas as effort and difficulty rather than the norm. As I watched the video, it was clear that any kid no matter where they are from has the ability to be intelligent as long as they have good effort and a higher difficulty to increase their knowledge. Examples of this range from the kids in Harlem to the natives in Seattle just goes to show that if you put in the time and effort you can do anything.

4 Write about a fixed mindset moment in your own learning history. Explain how that moment worked out for you. Be sure to offer enough detail for a reader to grasp the situation, your approach/experience, and the outcome. (We all have them at some point!) Make sure to explicitly link your experience to a specific idea (or ideas) in Dweck’s talk.

It was in my 3rd grade class and i wasn’t able to go out for recess because of horrible penmanship and I had to tell myself that I had better handwriting as I progressed through the hand at task. Anyways, if i hadtn given myself the mindset that I wasn’t going to be good then i was going to do bad but as long as you give effort and in this case put good messages through my head then i knew i was going to succeed at anything I did.
