Pre Reading, To be honest, I have heard what critical think ing was and I know what it is but I of liberal arts before but I don’t know 100% what liberal arts are. I have heard of liberal arts before but I never knew what it meant.

What Are The Liberal Arts Liberal education is “a wellspring of ideas and questions and a way of promoting flexibility and openness to diverse perspectives”. Liberal Arts free peoples minds and helps them think in a different perspective. There are many different parts/types of Liberal Arts, Philosophy being the most common. Liberal Arts have evolved since two-thousand years ago but it is still complicated to understand.

Why Do We Need the Liberal Arts Liberal Arts in needed for critical thinking and citizenship. Citizenship is “a social ecology involving a range of activities symbiotic with democratic communities”. There are three different types of citizenship (traditional civic dimension, economic citizenship, and cultural citizenship). These forms are the the most obvious ways and the most visible in communal engagement. The goal is to create a healthy community.

What Is Critical Thinking Critical thinking is the “intellectual engine of a functional democracy”. It isn’t easy to understand or describe but it’s about people’s thinking. Critical thinking helps us make arguments and understand something better. Critical Inquiry is more complex and advanced. It means, thinking independently and thinking creatively.

The Importance of Critical Inquiry Critical Inquiry isn’t just in Liberal Arts, but it’s in science and math. Critical Inquiry “forms a general roadmap indicating what students can expect to find, and the useful navigational skills they may acquire”. It is important to have a critical inquiry for all subjects because it is so helpful for students.
